Advanced Word Study (WRS Steps 7-12) Online Coursework

Want to find out how to teach advanced concepts of decoding and spelling? In this course, you will be guided through the procedures and multisensory techniques to effectively teach more complicated rules of the English language. Improve your effectiveness with spelling option principles, r-controlled and vowel digraph/diphthongs syllable types, suffixes, the 1-1-1 and y spelling rule, and additional advanced concepts.

The Advanced Word Study course is aligned with the skill-building sequence of the Wilson Reading System Steps 7-12. Detailed instruction is provided for each of the 33 substeps, including video clips of Barbara Wilson demonstrating parts 1, 2, 6,and 7 of the lesson pan, animations, text, printable materials, and assessments.

Enrollment in the online course also provides 15-month access to Wilson Academy, including the weekly enriched and decodable text passages and chats and discussions with peers and Wilson trainers.

Advanced Word Study course counts toward WRS Level II Certification

The course is one component of the WRS Advanced Certification
(Level II). Current requirements for certification include:

Advanced Strategies for MSL Instruction (WRS Group Mastery) Workshop
WRS Group Mastery Practicum

Participants who have completed or are currently enrolled in this online Advanced Word Study course are eligible to enroll in the WRS Steps 7-12 Practicum. The prerequisite for all advanced Wilson coursework is WRS Level I Certification and a bachelor's degree in education or related field.

Rochester School Teacher Receives National Recognition, Scholarship
Wilson Language Training® has named Marla Kleinman of Rochester, NY, as recipient of the 2009 Sharon Parks Memorial Scholarship for Wilson Level II training. The annual Sharon Parks Memorial Scholarship is a national award presented to one teacher who demonstrates dedication to the Wilson mission of helping students become fluent, independent readers. It was created in memory of the late Sharon Parks, an enthusiastic, conscientious, and concerned Wilson trainer.

Great Neck Administrator Honored with National Award
Wilson Language Training® has named Terry Horowitz of Great Neck, NY, as recipient of the 2009 Mary Ann Bonneau Administrator Award. Each year, Wilson recognizes one dedicated school administrator with this national award which commemorates the late Mary Ann Bonneau, an educator from the Worcester (MA) Public School District. Terry exemplifies the professionalism and compassion that embodied Mary Ann’s commitment to making literacy a possibility for everyone.

Saint Joseph's University Master's in Special Education Program Announces Partnership with Wilson Language Training
In March 2009, Saint Joseph's University's Online Master's in Special Education: Response to Intervention program will be collaborating with a third party, the world-renowned Wilson Language Training Corporation. This partnership will allow students enrolled in the Saint Joseph's University's Online Special Education Graduate Program to become certified as Wilson Reading System® teachers.
