What Wilson Certification Means for You |
Participants
receive WRS Level I Certification upon mastery of the
Wilson Reading System lesson plan, including multisensory,
structured language techniques and effective strategies
for working one-to-one.
Participants completing this program may represent
themselves as Wilson Level I certified tutors and are
included in our tutor referral service. Our policy to
recommend only Wilson Level I Certified Teachers is
our way of assuring the integrity of the program. Certified
individuals may also present WRS informational seminars
(up to 3 hours), but are not qualified as Wilson trainers.

School districts
and organizations implementing the Wilson Intensive
Model are able to enroll a minimum of 10 individuals
in a certification course. In addition to the online
seminar instruction, participants attend a start-up
lab and five implementation meetings throughout the
course of the school year. A Wilson trainer also observes
each teacher/student pair five times, and provides written
and verbal feedback. |

seeking WRS Level I Certification may participate in
the online seminar course and practicum upon trainer
availability. The participant must travel with the practicum
student to a certification site for 5 observation appointments
with a Wilson trainer.

This model
requires a minimum of ten participants. Tuition for
the online seminar instruction and trainer observations
is $1100 per participant. The start-up workshop is $1200
and the 5 implementation meetings are a total of $1200.
Trainer expenses (air, transportation, lodging, meals)
are applied if required. |

College Credit Available |
Participants
completing the Wilson / Intensive Course with practicum
are eligible to obtain up to 9 college credits from
Endicott College in Beverly, MA, for an additional fee.

| PRACTICUM
STUDENT SELECTION CRITERIA |

Student entering grades 4–12 (grade 3 approved if student has been retained)* |

Overall cognitive ability
in average range (minimum IQ = 80) |

Overall reading must be ranked
in the 5th to 30th percentile with a minimum
total reading score of 2.0 |

Student has poor decoding
and spelling |

Student’s listening
comprehension ability is higher than his/her
independent reading comprehension |

Student must be available
to be scheduled at minimum three to four
45-minute lessons, two to three 60-minute
lessons, or two to three 90-minute lessons
(1:1) per week |

Practicum student must not
have any previous Wilson instruction |

The above criteria
should be determined from school records and
current testing. Testing must be completed
for selection in either late spring or early
September. The WADE (Wilson Assessment of
Decoding and Encoding) must be used as well
as a formal reading test. Either the Woodcock
Reading Mastery Test, Woodcock-Johnson –R,
Woodcock Johnson III, or Woodcock Diagnostic
Reading Battery is recommended. A similar,
individualized reading assessment may be substituted
if it provides information regarding decoding,
comprehension and total reading. |

The practicum situation
works best when the selected student has a
consistent attendance record and does not
have overriding emotional or behavioral issues.

This requirement
that the practicum student be entering grades
4–12 is necessary for the purposes of
certified training, so that students can meet
other prerequisite requirements. |

SITE FOR INDIVIDUALS |

|
Practicum observations
are part of Level I Certification. For those not
part of a school district, we do offer Certification
Sites based upon trainer availability. If you
do not see a certification site near you, we recommend
that you pursue the Intervention Course.
The majority of our WRS training is provided
within school districts. If you are working in
a school district, we suggest that you contact
your administrator to learn if your district has
or would like to establish a Professional Development
Services Agreement with us.
